Reaktoren styrer k\u00e6dereaktionen ved hj\u00e6lp af br\u00e6ndselsstave, moderatorer og k\u00f8lesystemer, s\u00e5 processen forbliver stabil og sikker. Atomkraft udleder meget lidt CO\u2082 og bruges derfor som en vigtig energikilde i mange lande.
